When a Small Crisis Threatens Everything

For many working families, financial stability can be fragile.
A missed paycheck, an unexpected car repair, or a medical bill can quickly lead to eviction, utility shutoffs, or the loss of reliable transportation.

These setbacks are often temporary—but without timely help they can trigger a cascade of financial hardship that affects entire families.

Greystone exists to intervene at that critical moment.

By providing targeted financial assistance when it matters most, Greystone helps families stabilize their finances, remain housed and employed, and move forward with confidence.

Our Mission

Greystone helps low-income working families remain stable during temporary financial crises by providing short-term assistance for essential expenses such as rent, utilities, transportation, and insurance.

Our goal is simple: prevent a short-term financial setback from becoming a long-term crisis.

How Greystone Helps

Greystone responds quickly when a household experiences a sudden financial shortfall.

Our assistance focuses on resolving the immediate crisis while helping families strengthen their financial footing.

Support typically includes assistance with:

  • Rent or housing payments

  • Utility or heating bills

  • Vehicle payments and essential transportation costs

  • Insurance payments

In addition to direct assistance, Greystone works with households to review budgets and identify lower-cost service alternatives and potential savings opportunities that can improve long-term financial stability.

This combination of timely assistance and practical financial guidance helps families recover quickly and avoid more serious consequences such as eviction, job loss, or long-term debt.

Our Impact

In just a few years, Greystone has delivered meaningful and measurable results for families across Connecticut.

Impact at a Glance

  • $1,000,000+ in direct assistance and durable cost savings

  • 780 households served

  • 2,300 family members supported

  • 65 Connecticut communities reached

  • 92% of households served are single-parent families led by women and people of color

These outcomes demonstrate how modest, timely financial assistance can protect families from severe financial disruption.

Trusted Community Partnerships

Greystone works closely with a statewide network of social service organizations to ensure assistance reaches those who need it most.

We receive referrals from 60 partner organizations, including:

  • Municipal social service agencies

  • Hospitals and medical clinics

  • Behavioral health providers

  • Housing assistance programs

  • Food assistance organizations

  • Legal aid services

Additional referrals come from employers, landlords, and community members who recognize when a family could benefit from timely support. These partnerships help Greystone coordinate assistance effectively and reach families facing urgent financial challenges.

A Funding Model Designed for Maximum Impact

Greystone is committed to ensuring that every contribution delivers meaningful help to families.

Every public donation goes directly to client assistance.

All donations—large or small—are used exclusively to support families in need and are matched by Greystone internal funds, effectively doubling the impact of every contribution.

Administrative and operational costs are covered separately through internal funding.

This structure ensures that donor contributions remain focused entirely on helping families overcome financial crises.

Why Greystone’s Work Matters

For families living close to the financial margin, a temporary setback can have lasting consequences.

The loss of housing, transportation, or utilities can disrupt employment, education, and long-term financial stability.

Timely assistance can make the difference between a temporary challenge and a lasting hardship.

By intervening early, Greystone helps families remain stable, maintain employment, and continue supporting their children and communities.

Join Us in Strengthening Families

A small amount of assistance at the right time can change the trajectory of a family’s future.

With the support of donors, partners, and community members, Greystone is able to deliver timely assistance that keeps families stable and prevents temporary crises from becoming permanent setbacks.
